Best Places to Ski With Your Dog in Northern Minnesota

By Odyssey Resorts

Winter is a time when everyone feels couped up, especially if you’re a dog. But northern Minnesotans have found a great way to get out of the house with their canine friends, and it’s called Skijoring.

Skijoring is a sport where your dog pulls you on cross-country skis through a well-groomed trail. It’s great fun for the dog and makes for an exciting winter activity to explore the beautiful outdoors while staying active during the winter months.

Make sure that you check the signs on trails and confirm that dogs are allowed so you can avoid fines and confused looks from other skiers. Many of these areas have designated areas that allow dogs so they can keep the trails well groomed.

For all Minnesota skiing locations, a ski pass is required. You can purchase The Great Minnesota ski pass and find out more here. These locations are public parks and have a strict “leave it as you found it” policy, so be sure to clean up after your dog. Because these are all public parks, dogs must always be on a leash. Find more information on skijoring and equipment here.
