Tenkara Fly Fishing

Originating in Japan's mountain streams, Tenkara is the simplest form of fly fishing. It uses less equipment than traditional fly fishing and focuses on small streams. Which is ideal for the narrow rivers around us on the North Shore and the perfect match for beginners.

With the exception of Lake Superior Charter Fishing, Sailing on the Hjordis, and Wolf Ridge Adventures our Signature Experiences are based out of two hubs on the north shore at Larsmont Cottages in Two Harbors and Caribou Highlands in Lutsen. All Odyssey guests are welcome to participate in any Signature Experience from either hub.

Information & Policies


CANCELLATION

48-hours notice is required for a full refund. Cancellations made within 24 hours will result in 50% refund. Cancellation due to inclement weather will result in a 100% refund.

WEATHER

In the event of light to medium rainfall, the tour will still go out. In cases of extreme inclement weather, we will cancel the tour, contact you a minimum of 1-hour in advance, and provide a 100% refund.

Canoe Tours - Lutsen Hub

Level of Difficulty: Easy-Moderate

Tour Length: Approx. 3-Hours

What to Know: Expect to get your feet wet - there may be a short portage! If you're riding with us to the location, we ask that you wear a mask in the vehicle at all times. For your safety in the event of inclement weather (defined as waves more than 2 feet, constant wind exceeding 15mph, and/or thunder and lightning) the tour will be canceled and payment will be refunded. Ages 5+

What to Bring: Bring shoes that you don't mind getting wet (NO SLIP ON SHOES e.g. flip flops, crocs, etc.), Sunscreen, Bug Spray or Bug Head Net, Plenty of Water and snacks, something to keep your phone dry, weather-appropriate clothing (bring a rain jacket just in case and remember the temperature is typically 5-10 degrees warmer as you go inland from Lake Superior), and an extra change of clothes or a towel to leave in the vehicle.

Kayak Tours - Two Harbors Hub

Level of Difficulty: Easy-Moderate

Tour Length: Approx. 1.5 - 3 Hours

What to Know: Transportation is provided via shuttle but you may drive yourself. Expect to get wet as we do require you to practice a rollover before beginning the tour. For your safety in the event of inclement weather (defined as waves more than 2 feet, constant wind exceeding 15mph, and/or thunder and lightning), the tour will be canceled, and payment will be refunded. Ages 14+

What to Bring: Bring shoes that you don't mind getting wet (Sandals are fine but no flip-flops), Sunscreen, Plenty of Water and snacks, weather-appropriate clothing. Nylon/polyester base layers are best. Cotton will not wick/repel moisture. Long sleeve wind shirts work well—an extra change of clothes to leave in the vehicle is recommended.

Poplar River Paddleboarding Tours - Lutsen Hub

Level of Difficulty: Easy-Moderate

Tour Length: Approx. 1.5 Hours

What to Know: Expect to get wet! This location is less than a mile from Caribou Highlands, so we ask that you drive or walk up to the paddling site. For your safety in the event of inclement weather (defined as waves more than 1 foot, constant wind exceeding 10 mph, and/or thunder and lightning) the tour will be canceled and payment will be refunded. Ages 5+

What to Bring: Bring shoes that you don't mind getting wet (NO SLIP ON SHOES e.g. flip flops, crocs, etc.), sunscreen, bug spray or bug head net, plenty of water and snacks, something to keep your phone dry, weather-appropriate clothing, and a towel to leave in the vehicle.

Lake Superior Paddleboarding Tours - Two Harbors Hub

Level of Difficulty: Easy-Moderate

Tour Length: Approx. 1.75 Hours

What to Know: Lifejackets and dry bags are provided. For your safety, we will be touring close to shorelines and safe harbors along Lake Superior. Ages 14+

What to Bring: Bring shoes that you don't mind getting wet (sandals are fine but NO flip-flops), sunscreen, plenty of water and snacks, weather-appropriate clothing. Synthetic clothing is best (avoid cotton) have a towel available for after the paddle.

Tenkara Fly Fishing - Lutsen Hub

Level of Difficulty: Easy

Tour Length: Approx. 4-Hours

What to Know: You must possess or purchase a Minnesota Fishing License with a Trout Stamp (24-hour license or other short-term licenses are available). Licenses can be purchased online, at any Holiday Gas Station, and at select businesses such as Clearview General Store in Lutsen. Expect to get wet! Transportation is not provided for this activity, so we ask that you follow us in your personal vehicle to the fishing destination. We practice catch and release fishing, as they are beautiful, small, rainbow and native brook trout. For your safety in the event of inclement weather (constant wind exceeding 20 mph and/or thunder and lightning) the tour will be canceled and payment will be refunded.

What to Bring: Sunscreen, bug spray or bug head net, plenty of water and snacks, weather and activity appropriate clothing (shorts are recommended and bring a rain jacket just in case), and a towel to leave in the vehicle.

Hiking Tours - Lutsen & Two Harbors Hub

Level of Difficulty: Easy-Moderate

Tour Length: Approx. 2.5 - 3.5 Hours (generally 2-3 miles)

What to Know: Hiking packs and trekking poles are provided and baby carriers may be available upon request. Transportation is provided at the Two Harbors Hub but not at the Lutsen Hub. We ask that you follow us in your personal vehicle to the trailhead.

What to Bring: Hiking boots or tennis shoes, sunscreen, bug spray or bug head net, plenty of water and snacks, weather-appropriate clothing (bring a rain jacket just in case, and remember the temperature is typically 5-10 degrees warmer as you go inland from Lake Superior).

Sailing on the Hjordis

Tour Length: Approx. 1 Hour

What to Know: Lifejackets for adults are provided. If you are bringing a young person who weighs less than 50 lbs, you will need to provide your own PFD. Sailing could be canceled 30 mins before departure due to weather - so plan to enjoy time in Grand Marais if your sailing tour gets canceled at the last minute. If the tour is canceled due to weather, you will receive a full refund. Please dress warm—out on the lake, the temperature is usually 10 degrees cooler than on land. There is an outdoor waiting area on the dock under the timber frame. The Captain/Crew will meet you there for the check-in procedure—do not check-in at the Yellow House. Dogs are not allowed.

What to Bring: Print or show your confirmation email on your phone at check-in. Please bring a mask that is comfortable to wear for the duration of the sail. You are welcome to bring snacks and beverages along.

Adventures at Wolf Ridge

What to Know: Participants will gather at the main parking lot of Wolf Ridge’s main campus and will be greeted and guided by a Wolf Ridge naturalist or choose to ride the Larsmont Shuttle. After your chosen activity you are free to roam and spend the day exploring Wolf Ridge's 2,000-acre campus. There are exceptional hiking trails and water trails to follow.

What to Bring: Be sure to pack a lunch or snack and plenty of water.

Lake Superior Charter Fishing

Tour Length: Approx. 5 Hours

What to Know: You must purchase a Minnesota Fishing License with a Trout Stamp. Licenses can be purchased online, at any Holiday Gas Station, and at select businesses. Transportation is not provided for this activity. We ask that you meet your charter fishing captain at Artists Point/Coast Guard Station S., 315 Broadway, Grand Marais, MN 55604. For your safety in the event of inclement weather, the tour will be canceled and payment will be refunded.

What to Bring: Snacks, water, and weather-appropriate clothing (it can get chilly on the big lake)
