Don’t let the cold and snow put a damper on your outdoor fun. Here at Grand Superior Lodge, we offer a variety of recreational options. Guests can also take advantage of our exclusive partnerships with many nearby retailers and outfitters to rent equipment or hire an experienced guide.

We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites below.

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is a simple activity the whole family can enjoy right outside the front door at Grand Superior Lodge. Strap on some shoes and float across the powder. Take in the splendor of the season undisturbed.

Recommended Hikes

  • Gooseberry Falls State Park – candlelight ski!
  • Superior Hiking Trail – wolf rock
  • Split Rock Lighthouse Loop
  • Tettegouche State Park – high falls
  • Carlton Peak from Britton Peak parking lot
  • Oberg Mountain loop – what a view of Lake Superior!
  • Any place with snow is a good spot!

Fat Tire Biking

When temperatures drop, your biking doesn’t have to stop. Forging through the snowy terrain on a fat tire bike is a fun way to see the best of the winter season while getting in a full-body workout.

Where to ride:

  • Split Rock Lighthouse State Park: 8.7 miles of trails to be groomed for fat biking. Download map
  • Around the town of Two Harbors – stole along the lake and then stop in at Castle Danger for a local brew.
  • Check out Spokengear – test ride your next fatty! You can even rent an Electric Fat Bike to cruise the trail in style. You might as well ask them where the best-groomed trails are because they’re the experts in these neck of the woods.

Dog-sledding

Dash to the North Shore for a dog-sledding adventure. This popular tradition is kept alive by a handful of kennels and highlighted by the Annual John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon in late January.

For more information about our dog sled tours see our partner, Positive Energy Outdoors’ website. Or call Silver Creek Dog Sleds at 218.834.6592.

Skijoring

This winter sport is a must for dog lovers. Skijoring is a fast-growing winter activity that combines cross-country skiing and dogsledding. Originating in Scandinavia and literally meaning “ski-driving” in Norwegian, skijoring allows a dog and owner to exercise and travel together while enjoying the outdoors. Some special equipment is needed to get started but if you already have XC skies than all you need is the harness setup! After a full day of fresh air, you’ll be excited to retreat back to your cabin at Grand Superior Lodge and cuddle up with your pooch next to the fire.

Dogs are Welcome at Grand Superior Lodge – Please call and let us know ahead of time.

Ride the most superior trails in Minnesota conveniently located nearby Grand Superior Lodge. The area is renowned for some of the best terrain and inspiring, secluded winter landscapes. After your ride, stop by our bar at Splashing Rock to warm up with a hot drink and one of our signature meals.

Where to ride:

Ride the ditch to the Minnesota State Snowmobile Trail then keep on riding! Blaze through beautiful state parks and alongside Lake Superior to get the best snowmobile experience in the state.
