Stay cool! Five ice cream shops and cafes in Duluth

By Odyssey Resorts
Stop by these local businesses for a sweet treat during your stay, or on a road trip to your Odyssey destination!

One of the best parts of vacation is discovering new spots nearby, like galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and of course, ice cream shops! On a hot summer day on the North Shore, nothing beats getting out on the water before stopping for a cold treat. Check out five of our favorite cafes and ice cream shops in Duluth — and make it part of your own Odyssey tradition!

1. Love Creamery Lincoln Park

A well-loved local creamery, this ice cream spot focuses on using carefully chosen real ingredients. With two shops — one in Canal Park and one in Lincoln Park — it’s easy to fit a visit into a day spent exploring town. Choose from refreshing flavors made in small hand-made batches like Buttermilk Vanilla, Chai, Cookie Butter and more. Plus, this spot earned the 2022 Best Ice Cream Parlor award from Midwest Living Magazine.

2. The PortLand Malt Shoppe

In the mood for a scenic lakeside walk? Head over to Duluth’s PortLand Malt Shoppe, known for its namesake malts and ice cream, and pretty view of Lake Superior. The ice cream shop has been open since 1989, but the unique building dates back to 1921 where it was originally a gas station. Only open for the season, be sure to make a stop and get a classic sundae, malt or float.

3. Crank and Dasher

The options are endless at Crank and Dasher, with ice cream flavors like Mango Butter Sorbet, Honey Lavender, and Coffee Chip, and treats you can bring home. Stop by to pick up creole spiced pecans, almond toffee, or nut brittle for the road or to share with friends and family. Located in Fitger’s Courtyard, it’s the perfect place to stop for a snack before visiting Canal Park or while taking a walk or bike ride from Beacon Pointe.

4. At Sara’s Table Chester Creek Cafe

A cozy space to gather together, escape with a good book, or simply take time to relax, this café began as a trailer/espresso shop in the 1990s before eventually becoming a permanent restaurant. Their menu includes options made from local and seasonal ingredients, for healthy food that nods to Minnesota agriculture. During your stay at Odyssey, swing by to cool off with a cold kombucha or iced pistachio bréve, and a bite to eat.

5. 190 Coffee and Tea

Whether you need to wake up for the day with a little caffeine or are simply looking for fresh-squeezed lemonade, 190 Coffee and Tea has everything you need. At the edge of Canal Park, this café is committed to working with small batch specialty roasters and serving different offerings throughout the year.
