Snowmobiling Northern Minnesota

“…it might be the best in the country!”

Paul Laney has driven his snowmobile all over the country, but he hasn’t found anything that quite compares to the trails along the North Shore. “To snowmobile up here is like snowmobile heaven on Earth.” He says.

The landscapes here are truly one of a kind. Dramatic cliffs, rolling hills, and deep forests border the largest freshwater lake. And thanks to the efforts of area snowmobile clubs, the trail access is vast.

“We’ve been praying for snow and we got our prayers answered this year.”

Paul Laney, President Lutsen Trail Breakers Snowmobile Club

The North Shore is having a good old-fashion Minnesota winter. As of this writing, temperatures have stayed below freezing, keeping the groomed trails smooth, firm, and powdery. Check the current snow depth and trail conditions here

Update! Now, there is more snowmobiling near Odyssey Resorts. With Ruttger’s Bay Lake Resort as the newest addition to our family, our guests can explore the beautiful trails and nature in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Details below.

As president of the Lutsen Trail Breakers Snowmobile Club, Paul Laney says the plentiful snow has kept them grooming like crazy this year. “From the rider’s standpoint with the trails and the snow, it has been phenomenal, some of the best riding I’ve had in years.”

While the trails are remote, there are shelter cabins scattered along the way. They are a great place to get a campfire fire going and have a winter picnic. Laney says the snowmobile club gets together at one nearly every Sunday to roast hotdogs and chat with other riders.
