Pro Tips for Hitting the Slopes at Lutsen Mountains

By Odyssey Resorts
Whether you’re a first-timer or have experience skiing and snowboarding, find everything you need to know here!

All winter long, you can expect to see fresh snow on Lutsen Mountains — the Midwest’s premiere ski and snowboarding destination with 95 runs spread across four mountains: Eagle, Ullr, Mystery and Moose. Lutsen Sea Villas is located just five miles from Lutsen Mountain, and the Mountain Inn is just steps away. When you stay at Caribou Highlands, you’ll have ski-in, ski-out access to the mountain so you’ll never miss a beat. Before you hit the slopes, find a preview (or refresher) below on what to expect and how to make the most of your snow adventure with Odyssey Resorts. No matter your level, you’ll be set to have fun on the slopes whether it’s for the day, a week or all season long! Check out our pro tips here:

1. Pack the right gear

Before you arrive in Lutsen, make sure you have what you’ll need to stay warm! Packing layers that you can add or remove throughout the day will help you stay comfortable from the moment you get to the mountain, and all throughout the day as you warm up and cool down. Bringing a helmet and neck gator, extra pairs of warm socks, gloves, and hats or headbands, along with a pair of goggles are essential. Keeping your neck warm and nose covered is a must! Ski and snowboard equipment can be rented at the mountain, and for advanced skiers looking for upgraded rentals check out Lutsen Recreation. Read more about which essentials to pack for cold weather adventures here.

2. Take a lesson

If you’re new to winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, or just want to review proper technique, lessons are available at Lutsen Mountains. With group and private options, as well as lessons specifically for youth and adults, you’ll be able to find the right fit for your needs. Looking for more group activities or the chance to learn something new off the mountain? Discover another outdoor activity with one of our guided experiences before or after hitting the slopes.

3. Maintain energy levels with hearty meals and snacks

The last thing you want to deal with on the mountain is hunger. Luckily, Moguls Grille and Tap Room is just steps away with ski-in, ski-out access, so you can refuel between runs! Enjoy tasty options like pizza, cheese curds, chicken wings and much more. Keep snacks like granola bars, fruit and nuts on hand throughout the day as well for a quick bite when needed.

4. Find your sweet spot on the slopes

Explore different runs down the Mountain and find ones that feel like a good fit for your level. Choosing an open area is a great way to practice certain techniques and challenge yourself comfortably. Runs are available for all levels, from wide-open groomed cruisers to the 60 acres of steep tree skiing and expert only “The Plunge” and “Experts Cutoff.”

5. Take advantage of ski and stay packages

Bundle lodging with lift tickets to get a great deal on your stay. Stay at the Mountain Inn, just a five-minute walk to ski or snowboard down Bridge Run, at Lutsen Sea Villas just five miles from the mountain, or at Caribou Highlands with ski-in, ski-out access, and enjoy unparalleled proximity to the best skiing in the Midwest!

6. Choose your favorite activity!

If downhill skiing or snowboarding isn’t for you, no problem! Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, Hok skiing and winter fat biking make it easy to get outside and enjoy the snow any way you choose. Find the activity that most interests you and enjoy a peaceful trek through the woods of the North Shore.

We can’t wait to see you on the mountain this winter during your stay at Odyssey Resorts. Don’t miss out of the winter fun this season — book your stay now to make the most of the snow on the North Shore. Have fun, stay warm, and we’ll see you on the slopes!
