Visit Cook County and Lutsong Productions, the organizer behind the Lutsong Music Festival, are teaming up to bring the inaugural Lake Superior Jazz Festival--with three days of live music and performances--to Lutsen on November 4-6.

On Saturday, November 5th, Adonis Rose and the NOJO 7 (The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra) headlines the Lake Superior Jazz Fest performing at Papa Charlie’s at Lutsen Mountains on Saturday, Nov. 5. The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, a 20-piece band is led by artistic director Rose; bringing the versatile seven-piece touring ensemble with the ability to play across multiple genres and a repertoire that includes traditional New Orleans sounds.

In 2019, Adonis Rose and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra released Songs: The Music of Allen Toussaint, a big band take on the legendary New Orleans figure including renditions of the iconic “Working in the Coal Mine” and “Southern Nights.” Their latest album, Petite Fleur, was released in 2021, featuring a collaboration with French vocalist, Cyrille Aimée.

In addition, on November 5th,  Gypsy Mania "Hot Club" Swing Jazz Band, based out of the Twin Cities, will play at The Summit Chalet located at Lutsen Mountains. The 'Hot Club' tradition brings back the swing jazz era, with their exceptional stylistic dimension and fresh compositions which are sure to keep any audience member on the edge (or out) of their seats. Their blend of traditional Roma music and swing jazz, Gypsy Jazz, is sure to keep any listener entertained.

Starting at 1 p.m., for the price of a Summit Express gondola ticket, listeners can enjoy a ride up to Moose Mountain before listening to live music playing at the Chalet.

Minnesota Jazz acts The Southside Aces and The Andrew Walesch Orchestra will take the Papa Charlie’s stage Friday, November 4th. The Aces will bring a taste of the Crescent City jazz tradition, full of spice and sweetness, with their traditional New Orleans stylings. The Andrew Walesch Orchestra are sure to impress, with Walesch offering a more crooner-like performance in the vein of Cole Porter, resting at the intersection of jazz and pop, calling to mind the likes of Sinatra or Bobby Darin.

The performances up at Papa Charlie's follow a Jazz Dinner with Brilliant Colors Jazz Trio taking place just down the skill hill at Lutsen Resort.

The Southside Aces will kick off the North Shore Jazz Festival, November 4th at Papa Charlie's.

The festival programming wraps up Sunday, November 6th, with a Jazz Brunch featuring Grand Portage jazz guitarist Briand Morrison, bringing his original compositions and jazzy covers of popular music back to Moguls.
