5 Dog-Friendly Adventure Destinations

By Odyssey Resorts

Explore the outdoors with your pup at these prime spots!

When heading up to the North Shore, leaving your dog behind is often the last thing you want to think about. As a dog-friendly resort, we want your stay to be relaxing, rejuvenating and so much more — dog included. After a day at the pool, trip to the sauna or a guided experience, head outside for an adventure with your dog, whether just outside the resort, in town, or on a mini road trip. Here are a few of our favorite destinations perfect for furry friends, so you can treat your pup to an afternoon of scenic exploring.

1. Keene Creek Dog Park

Located in west Duluth, this urban dog park is fenced in and has double gated entry areas. If you’re looking for a place where your dog can run around and interact with other dogs, this option is convenient and spacious, with plenty of green grass and benches to relax on. After making a pitstop here, head up the shore to stretch your legs at Brighton Beach, the Lakewalk, or Congdon Park on Tischer Creek. 2. Tettegouche State Park

Situated between Grand Superior Lodge and Lutsen Sea Villas, Tettegouche is famous for its dramatic overlooks, miles of trails, cascades and falls along the shore of North Superior. Soak up the views while wandering through the forest discovering all sorts of breathtaking stops along the way, from hidden lakes to the crashing waves on the shore.

3. Paul Van Hoven Park

This neighborhood park is located in Two Harbors near Breezy Pointe Cabins, with plenty of green space and a spectacular walkway over the water, making it the perfect place for you and your pup to go for a walk and watch the sunset. During the warmer months, ships can be seen passing by. A great option for those with kids, Paul Van Hoven Park is a fun place to hang out without going far from the resorts, whether for a lunchtime picnic, quick afternoon stop or relaxing post-dinner walk.

4. Cascade River State Park (Lutsen)

If you’re looking for rugged rocks, waterfalls, greenery, and tall shady trees, Cascade River State Park in Lutsen is the ideal adventure spot for you and your pet. In the heart of the woods, this state park is a paradise for nature lovers and dogs who love to explore the outdoors. With opportunities for fly fishing, a river overlook, cascades, walking bridge and picnic area, the park offers fresh air and a chance to feel connected to nature any time of year. Plus, it’s near Caribou Highlands and Lutsen Sea Villas!

5. Eagle Mountain Trail

Eagle Mountain is the tallest mountain in the state, with a 3.5-mile trail leading to the peak. At 2,301 feet, the peak is the highest point in Minnesota — and not far from East Bay Suites. If you and your dog are routine outdoor adventurers and up for a trek over rocks and roots, this route is worth checking out. From beginning to end, the trail is a total of 7 miles. To prepare for this advanced hike, be sure to bring proper supplies and plenty of water for both you and your pet. When you reach the top, you’ll get to enjoy vast views of Minnesota’s natural beauty.

At Odyssey Resorts, you never have to wander far for spectacular views and quality time with your pet. Whether you opt for some offsite exploring or walk your dog along the shoreline, you’ll be soaking up all the North Shore has to offer and make memories you’ll hold onto forever.
